When we got through to the final 15 of the Google Science Fair, we were so shocked. The competition was an amazing experience — and we made so many memories during our time at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California. We met the other finalists who came from all corners of the globe, each with a different story to tell. It was great to have so many people with common interests in the same room!

What happens when Science and Humanitarianism collide? Hunger affects millions of people in the world and three young, Irish students were determined to make a difference. Sophie, Emer and Ciara joined forces with each other to research and test bacteria's effect on speeding up a seed's germination process. All in an effort to aid world hunger.

By using Google Apps for Education the students were able to quickly collaborate and analyze data to test their hypothesis. After carrying out many tests, their findings showed incredible potential for bacteria to combat hunger. Confident in their results, the girls are moving forward with their work to attempt to reduce poverty and aid the food crisis.
